Camerata Musica Peterhouse Cambridge
About

CAMERATA MUSICA

Camerata Musica was founded in Peterhouse in 2005 to bring musicians of international distinction to perform in Cambridge, and to make available concerts of the highest standard accessible to student audiences. Admission tickets are heavily discounted to students, and are without charge to members of Peterhouse and Trinity College.

Most concerts are held in the Peterhouse Theatre, the finest chamber-music venue in Cambridge; larger-scale and choral concerts are held in Trinity College Chapel (by kind permission of the Master and Fellows).

Artists who have appeared in earlier concerts include Kurt Masur and members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Garlitsky Trio, Sir Thomas Allen, Natalie Clein, the Tallis Scholars, and the Melchior Ensemble.

THE KOHN CONCERTS AND THE KOHN FOUNDATION

Camerata Musica is grateful to the Trustees of the Kohn Foundation, who have generously provided substantial funding for the furtherance of music at Peterhouse, and, in particular, for the establishment of the Kohn Concert Series. In 2006-7, the Kohn Foundation similarly supported music at Trinity College.

The Kohn Foundation was established by Sir Ralph Kohn, FRS, in 1991, to support work in scientific and medical research, innovation, the arts, education, and humanitarian aid. It has been generous in its support of many scientific initiatives and institutions, including endowing substantial prizes in recognition of scientific and musical achievement. For all his activity in the furtherance of science and innovation, Ralph Kohn was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society in 2006. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, an Honorary Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. Dr Kohn was knighted in the New Year Honours List of 2010 for his services to science, music and philanthropy.
